Grey's Anatomy Season 4
Overview
The interns have grown up. Meredith and her class are residents now, each handed a batch of interns to boss around — and Meredith draws the one person she'd least have picked. Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) is Meredith's younger half-sister, bright, eager and hoping for a family that Meredith has no interest in giving her. Watching the two of them circle each other is the season's strongest thread. George, meanwhile, failed his intern exam and has to repeat the year working under his own best friends, while his marriage to Callie quietly falls apart over Izzie. Cristina returns from her honeymoon alone, Burke gone, and throws herself into cardiology under the new chief Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith), who takes an instant and vocal dislike to her. Derek and Meredith do their familiar two-steps-forward dance until a risky clinical trial starts changing the odds for both of them. Ellen Pompeo anchors it all, and Patrick Dempsey gets some of his softest material. This is Grey's Anatomy in its comfort zone: love lives colliding with impossible cases, big speeches in scrub rooms, and at least one episode a month engineered to wreck you. Barely a wasted hour in the whole run.
