Friends Season 2
Overview
Ross comes back from China with a new girlfriend, and Rachel is standing at the airport holding flowers. Season two picks up exactly there and spends a year on the fallout. Ross and Rachel do finally get together — then put their relationship through jealousy, trust issues and one brutally honest pros-and-cons list. Around them, Monica falls for Richard, her dad's friend and a charming older eye doctor played by Tom Selleck, while Joey lands a soap role as Dr. Drake Ramoray and Chandler keeps striking out, usually via the unforgettable Janice. The standouts are easy to name: "The One with the Prom Video" rewinds Ross and Rachel's history to lovely effect, and the two-part Super Bowl episode stuffs in guest stars like Julia Roberts and Brooke Shields. You can feel the writing level up this year — the stories run longer, the jokes land harder — and Monica's goodbye to Richard gives the finale a genuine lump in the throat. By now the show was a ratings juggernaut, and its six stars were properly famous.
