Friends Season 1
Overview
A runaway bride in a wedding dress walks into a coffee shop, and TV history changes. That's how the first season starts: Rachel Green ditches her wedding, bumps into her old school friend Monica, and gets adopted by Monica's circle of Manhattan twenty-somethings. Over 24 episodes the show lays all its foundations. Monica is a perfectionist who can't get her love life right. Ross is reeling from his divorce and has nursed a crush on Rachel since high school. Chandler hides behind sarcasm, Joey chases acting work, and Phoebe floats through life in her own delightful orbit. The season's charm is in small things — a citywide blackout, Ross's pet monkey Marcel, a Thanksgiving that ends with everyone locked out on the balcony. It all builds to Ross flying off to China while Rachel waits at the airport holding flowers, a cliffhanger that had millions of viewers properly hooked. Nothing here is big or flashy. It's just funny, warm, and it instantly makes you want to join the gang.
