Friends Season 7
Overview
Everything this season is aimed at one event: Monica and Chandler's wedding. And because this is Friends, the road there includes Chandler's cold feet, a wedding dress bought off a rival bride, and the small matter of his father — played, brilliantly, by Kathleen Turner — being invited. Around the main event, the show's still firing on all cylinders. Rachel turns thirty and takes it exactly as badly as you'd expect, Joey lands back on Days of Our Lives playing a brain in a new body (don't ask, it's funnier than it sounds), and Rachel's brief fling with her much younger assistant Tag gives us the gang at their most judgemental. Phoebe gets a few lovely moments hunting for the truth about her family, and Ross is mostly around to be stressed by other people's happiness, which is his natural state. The two-part finale is the payoff: Chandler goes missing hours before the ceremony, Joey ends up officiating in a soldier's uniform from a film set, and in the last minutes a pregnancy test turns up in Monica's bathroom. Season 7 isn't the show's flashiest year, but it's warm, confident comfort television that knows exactly why you're watching.
