Grey's Anatomy Season 6
Overview
Seattle Grace is still reeling when this season begins — George O'Malley is gone, Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl, in her final year) is drifting toward the exit — and then the hospital itself gets shaken up: a merger with Mercy West floods the halls with rival residents, including Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and April Kepner (Sarah Drew), who arrive as enemies and end up staying for a decade. The merger hands the show a shot of new blood at exactly the right moment. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek finally get married — on a Post-it note, which tells you everything about them — while Cristina and Owen try to build something on top of his PTSD, and Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) rolls into paediatrics on wheelie shoes and promptly becomes essential. The whole year has a scrappier, hungrier energy than the soapier seasons before it. And then the finale arrives: a two-parter that locks the hospital down in terror, still the episodes people name first when you ask why they can't quit this show. Exhausting, manipulative, utterly gripping television — Grey's doing the thing only Grey's can do, at full power.
