Outlander Season 1
Overview
Claire Randall is a World War II nurse in Scotland when she wakes up in 1743 — no explanation, no way home, stranded in a Highlands where a strange Englishwoman with modern knowledge and a modern tongue is a danger to herself. What saves her, and then consumes her, is Jamie Fraser: a Scottish warrior played by Sam Heughan, whose code of honor keeps colliding with Claire's twentieth-century instincts. Their love story is the engine of the season, and it's genuinely passionate — the kind of romance that costs both of them something in nearly every episode. Around it, the season builds a sweeping, epic historical drama: a Scotland filmed so beautifully you'll want to move there, right up until the graphic violence reminds you what the eighteenth century actually was. And hanging over every happy moment is Claire's impossible position — she belongs to another century, another life, and the future she came from is this world's past. Caitriona Balfe carries the whole premise on sheer conviction, playing a woman too smart and too stubborn to simply submit to 1743. If you like your romance windswept, epic and a little brutal, season one is a feast.
