Guillermo del Toro's romantic fantasy is a beautiful, magical, deeply romantic fairy tale for adults — a love letter to classic Hollywood musicals and monster movies, where the monster is the gentlest soul in the building and the real danger wears a suit. Hawkins gives a powerful, wordless performance, saying everything with her eyes and her hands, in a story about two outsiders finding each other in a world built to keep them apart.
