Luther Season 4
Overview
Season four is barely a season — just two episodes — but it goes hard. Luther is living in self-imposed exile in a crumbling coastal cottage when news reaches him about Alice Morgan, and suddenly staying away isn't an option anymore. Back in London he gets pulled into the hunt for a killer with a truly grim appetite, while a new detective, Emma Lane, watches this disgraced legend at work and can't decide whether he's brilliant or dangerous. Idris Elba was a genuine movie star by this point, and there's something thrilling about watching him return to the role that made him: the walk, the coat, the way Luther thinks by standing too close to the darkness and staring straight at it. Alice haunts the whole thing whether she's on screen or not — that twisted connection remains the show's beating heart. It's bleaker than ever, the crimes are nasty, and an old friend pays a horrible price. Short, sharp and properly grim: exactly what you want from this show, honestly, even if it leaves you wishing it were longer.
