Overview
Season four belongs to Kristina. Early on, Adam's wife — the Bravermans' tireless organizer, the one who keeps every plate spinning — finds a lump, and suddenly the show's center of gravity shifts to hospital waiting rooms, chemo sessions, and a family trying to be brave for each other. Monica Potter is phenomenal, Peter Krause matches her scene for scene, and when Adam shaves his head in solidarity you'll probably need a minute. Around that storyline, life insists on continuing: newlyweds Crosby and Jasmine buy a house and immediately butt heads over money and in-laws, Victor struggles to settle into the family that adopted him while Julia quits her job to hold things together at home, and Amber falls for Ryan, a gentle young veteran carrying more than he lets on. Sarah's path takes a turn too, when she goes to work for Hank — Ray Romano, unexpectedly wonderful — a gruff photographer who sees her talent and maybe something more. Haddie comes home from college, because that's what Bravermans do. It's the season that fully earns this show's reputation: nobody does "you'll laugh, then cry, then call your parents" like Parenthood.
