Overview

House finally runs into someone he can't out-diagnose: a policeman. This season's big arc starts with Michael Tritter (David Morse), a detective House humiliates during a clinic visit, who comes back with a warrant, a drug charge, and limitless patience. Morse plays Tritter as House's mirror — just as smart, just as stubborn, and legally untouchable — which turns the first half of the season into a slow squeeze on House's Vicodin supply, his team, and Wilson's loyalty. It's some of the tensest television the show ever produced. Around that arc, the year is stacked: there's "One Day, One Room," built around a patient who will only talk to House, which people still rank among the finest episodes the series ever made; a storyline where Foreman makes a mistake with consequences he can't shake; and Hugh Laurie doing extraordinary work as a man whose brain is his superpower and whose body keeps filing complaints. Watch, too, how the fellowship starts to strain — three years of being bullied by a genius leaves marks, and by the end of the season those marks are showing in ways that are about to change the team for good.
