House M.D. Season 1
Overview
Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) is the best diagnostician at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey — and the worst person in the building. Brilliant, misanthropic, unconventional, a drug addict, and deeply unhappy, House is Sherlock Holmes in a white coat: deductive reasoning, a piano, and one real friend, Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard), his only confidant. He's a jerk to patients, colleagues, and his boss, Dean of Medicine Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) — and he saves lives anyway. His Season 1 team — Foreman (Omar Epps), the ambitious former neurologist who clashes with him; Cameron (Jennifer Morrison), the immunologist who is the team's moral compass; and Chase (Jesse Spencer), the intensivist who grows to respect him — works through a case a week, each one a puzzle. Under it all runs House's leg pain and his Vicodin addiction, the constant source of his misery. The finale ends with House shot by a patient's father — a cliffhanger that sets up everything after.
