Overview
Five years after Salt Lake City, Joel and Ellie are trying to live something like a normal life in Jackson, Wyoming — a settlement with electricity, schools, and survivors who have actually built a society. Ellie is 19 now, and she knows what Joel did at the Firefly hospital: he killed the doctors, lied to her, and took away the cure — and her purpose. That lie sits between them like a wall. Around them, new faces arrive: Dina (Isabela Merced), Ellie's funny, fiercely loyal best friend and love interest; Jesse (Young Mazino), their dependable patrol partner; and Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), a Washington Liberation Front soldier from Seattle with a personal vendetta — Joel killed her father, the hospital's lead surgeon. Flashbacks fill in the years that pulled Joel and Ellie apart, and then the cycle of revenge takes over, dragging Ellie and Abby across a ruined Seattle. Brutal and emotional, this season is really about grief — and how revenge never pays what it promises.
