The Office Season 1
Overview
Welcome to Dunder Mifflin, Scranton, Pennsylvania — a paper company, a documentary crew, and the most painfully funny office in America. Based on Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's British series, the season introduces Michael Scott (Steve Carell), the delusional, inappropriate, well-meaning regional manager who desperately wants his employees to love him; Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), the power-hungry, beet-farming salesman and Michael's sycophant; Jim Halpert (John Krasinski), the smart, funny salesman in love with the receptionist and forever pranking Dwight; Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer), the receptionist engaged to boring warehouse worker Roy, with feelings for Jim; and Ryan Howard (B.J. Novak), the temp who watches it all. Six episodes only, but the tone is set: cringe comedy, talking-head interviews, and the mundane absurdities of office life — from the disastrous 'Diversity Day' sensitivity training to the office-versus-warehouse basketball game. It ends with Jim finally telling Pam how he feels.
