Overview
Extraction 2 is a 2023 action thriller film directed by Sam Hargrave, the sequel to the 2020 film Extraction. The film stars Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, a black ops mercenary who is presumed dead. The film picks up after the events of the first film. Tyler Rake is alive, but he is badly injured and traumatized. He is recruited by his ex-wife to rescue her sister and her children from a prison in Georgia. The mission is even more dangerous than his previous one: he must break into a prison controlled by a ruthless crime lord, extract the family, and then fight his way out of a country that is on the verge of civil war. The film is a relentless, non-stop action movie, famous for its extended, one-shot action sequences. The film features a 21-minute continuous take that includes a prison riot, a car chase, a train sequence, and a fight on a moving train. The action is brutal and visceral, with Hemsworth performing many of his own stunts. The film was a critical and commercial success, earning over $100 million on a $65 million budget. The film ends with Tyler Rake being shot and presumably dying, but a post-credits scene reveals that he is alive. A third film is in development.
