Overview
Game of Thrones Season 2 continues the story of the War of the Five Kings. The five kings are: Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson), the cruel, illegitimate king in King's Landing; Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane), Robert's younger brother, who believes he is the rightful king; Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony), Robert's youngest brother; Robb Stark (Richard Madden), Ned's eldest son, who is declared King in the North; and Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide), the ruler of the Iron Islands, who declares independence. The season follows the aftermath of Ned's death. Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) arrives in King's Landing as the new Hand of the King and tries to outmaneuver his sister Cersei. Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) betrays the Starks and captures Winterfell. Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) travels through the war-torn Riverlands with Gendry and Hot Pie. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) travels through the Red Waste and tries to find an army. The season ends with the Battle of the Blackwater, where Stannis attacks King's Landing and is defeated by Tyrion's wildfire trap and the arrival of Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) and the Tyrells.
