Nomadland
Overview
What do you do when the life you built just... disappears? Fern doesn't have a big speech about it. She packs her van and drives. Frances McDormand plays her with almost no vanity at all — she works seasonal jobs, fixes what breaks, sleeps where she lands, and meets other folks living the same way out in the American West. Some of them have lost everything too. Some of them chose this. Either way, there's a strange dignity to it, and even joy, in small doses: a sunset, a shared meal, a story swapped in a parking lot. This isn't a plot-heavy film. It's quiet, it's patient, and if you let it, it sits with you for days after. Bring a blanket. You'll want to stay a while.
