The Mauritanian
Overview
Fourteen years behind bars. No trial. That's where Mohamedou Ould Salahi finds himself at Guantanamo Bay, accused of involvement in the 9/11 attacks. What follows is a gripping fight for truth, as a determined defence lawyer, played by Jodie Foster, digs into a case the system would rather keep buried. On the other side, a military prosecutor, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, starts to question what justice actually looks like here. Tahar Rahim is deeply human in the lead — warm, witty, broken by turns — and he never lets his character become just a symbol. Tense and infuriating in equal measure. It's about legal courage, and about holding onto hope when the world has stopped listening. Angry, moving, and hard to shake off — you'll be thinking about it long after the credits roll.
