Luther Season 2
Overview
Luther comes back in Season 2 with his life in pieces — Zoe's gone, his name's mud with half of Scotland Yard, and the one person who truly gets him is Alice Morgan, a murderer he couldn't prove guilty of anything. Their strange, electric relationship hums under everything this season. The cases are properly nasty: a masked killer staging theatrical murders across London, and another who seems to be killing at random just to prove he can. Idris Elba does some of his best work here, especially in the quieter moments — Luther trying, and mostly failing, to keep a vulnerable young woman safe from the world his job keeps dragging him into. New detective Erin Gray joins the unit bright-eyed and quickly starts wondering why everyone around Luther either ends up dead or compromised; her suspicion gives the season a slow-burn internal threat alongside the killers. It's only four episodes, so nothing drags. Darker than Season 1, tighter too, and the finale leaves Luther making deals with devils he swore he'd never touch. If you like your crime drama with the screws constantly tightening, this is the good stuff.
