Yellowstone
Overview
Yellowstone is a 2018 neo-Western drama television series created by Taylor Sheridan for Paramount Network. The series follows the Dutton family, who own the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States, located in Montana on the border of Yellowstone National Park. The series stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the family patriarch, a sixth-generation rancher who is willing to do anything to protect his land and his family's legacy. John is a complex character: a loving father, a ruthless businessman, a killer when necessary, and a man who is slowly losing control of everything he has built. The series follows John and his children: Jamie (Wes Bentley), the adopted son, a lawyer and politician who is desperate for his father's approval but is repeatedly rejected; Beth (Kelly Reilly), the only daughter, a brilliant, vicious, and deeply damaged woman who is fiercely loyal to her father; and Kayce (Luke Grimes), the youngest son, a former Navy SEAL who wants to live a simple life with his Native American wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille). The family faces threats from multiple directions: developers who want to build a casino and resort on their land; the neighboring Broken Rock Indian Reservation, led by Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham); a hedge fund run by the merciless Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway); and a "market equities" company that wants to take over the ranch. The series is a modern Western, full of gunfights, horse riding, and stunning landscapes. It is also a family drama, exploring themes of legacy, loyalty, and the changing American West. Yellowstone has become a massive ratings success, and it has spawned multiple prequels: 1883, 1923, and 1944.
