Abbott Elementary Season 1
Overview
Abbott Elementary is a predominantly Black, underfunded public school in Philadelphia — and its teachers are the whole show. The mockumentary follows a group of dedicated, passionate educators working with almost nothing and a clueless principal: Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson), naive, optimistic, enthusiastic, teaching second grade; Gregory Eddie (Tyler James Williams), handsome, strait-laced, reluctant substitute; Ava Coleman (Janelle James), selfish, incompetent, hilarious as principal; Barbara Howard (Sheryl Lee Ralph), veteran, respected, beloved kindergarten teacher; Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Ann Walter), tough, street-smart, second grade; and Jacob Hill (Chris Perfetti), well-meaning, awkward history teacher. The season's comedy comes from the gap between what these kids deserve and what the system gives them — and the teachers who refuse to let that gap win.
