Slow Horses Season 4
Overview
A bomb goes off in a London shopping centre, and the trail leads somewhere nobody at the Park wants to look: a unit of cold, deniable killers-for-hire and the man who used to run them. Season four adapts Mick Herron's "Spook Street" and gets personal — River's grandfather David Cartwright, the legendary old spymaster, is losing his memory, and some of the secrets dissolving in his mind are exactly the kind people kill to keep buried. Hugo Weaving joins the cast as Frank Harkness, a smiling ghost from the Service's dirtiest era, and he's magnetic: every scene he's in feels like it might end with a body bag. Gary Oldman's Jackson Lamb remains gloriously awful, but the season keeps finding the loyalty underneath the cruelty — Lamb protects his joes the way a man protects things he'd rather die than admit he cares about. There's fresh friction upstairs too, with a preening new First Desk and a no-nonsense head of security. Darker, sadder and still very funny in the bleakest way, this is the show operating at its absolute peak.
