Slow Horses Season 3
Overview
Somebody has taken Catherine Standish, and for once the losers of Slough House are the only people who seem to care. Season three adapts Mick Herron's "Real Tigers" and it's the tightest run yet: a rogue figure nursing a grudge against MI5 sets an elaborate trap involving stolen files and a hostage, and River Cartwright — who actually respects Standish, possibly the only person who does — goes charging in, while Jackson Lamb does what he always does, which is see three moves further than everyone else while smelling faintly of a pub carpet. Sophie Okonedo joins as Ingrid Tearney, the silky new First Desk whose smile you would never trust with your drink, and the season becomes a quiet three-way war between her, Diana Taverner and Lamb over who controls the story. The action steps up noticeably this year too, with a desperate race across London and a siege the show earns completely. Underneath it all there's something almost touching: these rejects keep saving the institution that threw them away. Not that Lamb would ever put it that way.
