Only Murders in the Building Season 1
Overview
Three strangers in one very fancy building share one very specific obsession: true crime. Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez play neighbors in the Arconia, a luxurious Upper West Side apartment building, who mostly know each other from the elevator. Then someone in the building is murdered, and instead of leaving it to the police, the three of them do what true-crime addicts dream of doing: they start investigating it themselves, and record a podcast about it as they go. The show is a loving parody of the whole true-crime-podcast phenomenon — the cliffhangers, the theorizing, the amateur detectives getting in over their heads — but it's also a genuinely clever mystery that keeps its plotting honest. The secret weapon is the trio itself: Martin and Short bring decades of comic timing, Gomez plays the dry, guarded center, and the odd-couple energy between the generations powers everything. It's also a postcard to New York — the building, the neighbors, the whole ecosystem of old Manhattan money. Cozy and sharp at the same time, it's the rare whodunit where you'd happily hang out with the detectives even if nobody had died.
