The Crown Season 5

Overview

Imelda Staunton is Elizabeth now, and the years are 1991 to 1997 — the years the monarchy nearly broke. The season covers the 'annus horribilis' of 1992, when three of her children's marriages fell apart and Windsor Castle caught fire; the rise of Prime Minister John Major (Jonny Lee Miller); and the divorce of Charles and Diana. It ends with Diana's death depicted in the sixth season — the event the whole season has been moving toward, and the one the Crown never recovered from. The monarchy's worst years are also its most revealing: the Crown, forced to look at itself, finds little comfort in the reflection.
