Overview

Barry Berkman came to Los Angeles to kill someone. He stayed because he found an acting class. Bill Hader plays the depressed, lonely hitman from the Midwest who travels to LA for a job and accidentally discovers a passion for acting — and, for the first time in his life, a purpose that isn't pulling a trigger. Created by Alec Berg and Hader for HBO, the first season follows Barry as he tries to leave crime behind and become an actor, studying under Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler), a pompous, washed-up acting coach who sees something real in him. Dark, funny, and violent, it's an exploration of the search for meaning — and the question of whether a man who kills for a living can ever really start over.
