Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 7
Overview
Captain Holt, uniformed patrol officer. That's the indignity season seven starts with — Wuntch's parting shot left him busted down to answering calls in a squad car like a rookie, and Andre Braugher plays the humiliation with total deadpan commitment. Then Wuntch dies, and Holt ends up grieving his nemesis in the strangest, sweetest storyline of the year, because apparently you can't spend a decade feuding with someone without it becoming a kind of love. The season also smuggles in Vanessa Bayer as Debbie, a painfully earnest new detective who turns out to be stealing cocaine from the evidence lockup, which goes about as well as you'd think. But the real heart of the season is Jake and Amy trying for a baby. The show doesn't rush it or play it cheap — there's hope, bad news, and a lot of very funny people being quietly sad — and it all pays off in a finale set during a citywide blackout, with Amy in labor at the precinct and Jake racing across a dark, chaotic Brooklyn to get there in time. It's a short season, thirteen episodes, and it barely wastes a minute of them.
