Top Gun
Overview
Top Gun is a 1986 action drama film directed by Tony Scott, starring Tom Cruise as Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a young, talented, and reckless naval aviator. He is sent to the elite fighter weapons school, Top Gun, where he competes with his rival, "Iceman" (Val Kilmer). He also falls in love with his instructor, Charlie (Kelly McGillis). The film is a celebration of the US Navy, with spectacular aerial dogfights and a iconic soundtrack. Top Gun was a massive critical and commercial success, earning over $356 million on a $15 million budget. It won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Take My Breath Away."
