The Menu
Overview
Twelve courses, $1,250 a person, on a private island — and every course is a judgement on the people eating it. Chef Julian Slowik (Ralph Fiennes) is a world-renowned, obsessive, deranged chef at Hawthorn, an exclusive restaurant, and his guests are a group of wealthy, entitled, deeply flawed individuals: food critic Lillian Bloom (Janet McTeer), who destroyed Slowik's career; movie star George Diaz (John Leguizamo), famous for a forgettable action film; a trio of obnoxious tech bros; and Tyler (Nicholas Hoult), a wealthy, pretentious foodie obsessed with Chef Slowik, who brings Margot Mills (Anya Taylor-Joy), a young woman who is not who she seems to be. Each of the 12 courses comments on the guests and their sins, in a darkly comedic satire of the high-end food industry, the cult of celebrity, and the entitled elite. Margot, actually a sex worker hired by Tyler, is the only survivor, escaping the island while Chef Slowik and the other guests are killed when the restaurant explodes.
