Tarot
Overview
You know the rule in movies like this: never touch the creepy antique object in the rented house. A group of college friends celebrating a birthday at a mansion in the Catskills stumble on a box of hand-painted tarot cards, and Haley (Harriet Slater) — the one who actually knows how to read them — gives everyone a reading, just for fun. Then the cards start coming true. In order. In the worst possible way: the High Priestess, the Magician, the Fool, each friend's fortune turning into a death designed around their card. It's a gothic riff on the Final Destination formula, and the designs for the embodied cards are genuinely nasty — the Fool alone is nightmare fuel. Jacob Batalon brings the comic relief as Paxton, slowly realising his wisecracks won't save him, and there's a decent mystery underneath it all about a vengeful astrologer, a rigged reading from centuries ago, and why this particular deck wants payback. Silly in places, sure. But it's lean, mean fun.
