Overview

What if love came in a dose? Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth) is a charismatic, brilliant, and amoral scientist running a prison where inmates are given drugs that control their emotions — and his latest experiment is a drug that can make people fall in love on command. Joseph Kosinski's psychological thriller, based on George Saunders' 2010 short story 'Escape from Spiderhead,' is tense, thought-provoking, and unsettling, asking what free will actually means when feelings can be switched on and off like lights. Hemsworth is creepy and charismatic as the scientist who treats human hearts like lab equipment. It's about control, and about the nature of love — and whether either survives when the other is manufactured.
