The Pale Blue Eye
Overview
West Point, 1830. Cadets are turning up dead — and mutilated — and the academy calls in a man who's already seen too much. Christian Bale plays Augustus Landor, a world-weary detective hired to untangle a string of gruesome murders, and the case drags him into a foggy, secretive world where nothing is quite what it seems. His unlikely ally is a sharp, strange young cadet named Edgar Allan Poe, played by Harry Melling, whose imagination turns out to be as useful as any detective's toolkit. Slow-burning, atmospheric, full of suspicion and dread. It's a gothic mystery about obsession and grief, with a young poet at its unsettling centre. And when the truth finally comes? Chilling. Stick with the slow pace. It pays off.
