Outer Banks
Overview
Outer Banks is a 2020 action-adventure teen drama television series created by Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke for Netflix. The series is set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, a string of barrier islands off the coast. The series follows a group of teenagers, the "Pogues," who are from the working-class "Cut" (the south side of the island), as they search for a legendary treasure linked to the disappearance of the father of the group's leader, John B. (Chase Stokes). The Pogues include: John B. Routledge (Chase Stokes), the charismatic, adventurous leader who is determined to find his missing father and prove his innocence; Sarah Cameron (Madeline Cline), a wealthy "Kook" (the rich kids from the north side of the island) who falls in love with John B. and is torn between her family and her heart; Kiara "Kie" Carrera (Madison Bailey), a Pogue who is friends with both groups and struggles with her identity; Pope Heyward (Jonathan Daviss), a smart, responsible, and loyal Pogue who often serves as the voice of reason; and JJ Maybank (Rudy Pankow), a reckless, impulsive, and fiercely loyal Pogue who comes from an abusive home and uses humor to mask his pain. The series is a treasure-hunt adventure, filled with mystery, romance, and danger. The series is influenced by 1980s adventure films like The Goonies and National Treasure, and it has been praised for its gorgeous cinematography, its attractive cast, and its fun, escapist tone. Outer Banks has been a massive success for Netflix, becoming one of its most-watched series, and it has been renewed for a fourth season.
