Overview
On his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) comes home to find his wife gone. In North Carthage, Missouri, Nick runs a bar with his twin sister Margo (Carrie Coon). His wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) inspired her parents' "Amazing Amy" books. Her disappearance becomes a media sensation. Police find a life insurance policy on Amy, evidence of Nick's affair, and camera behaviour that looks cold. The story splits between Nick's investigation and Amy's diary, which paints a troubled marriage. Then the twist: Amy is not dead. She staged her disappearance to frame Nick for murder, punishing him for his affair and for taking her for granted. A brilliant schemer, Amy goes on the run while Nick hires a defence attorney and fights back. Who is the real villain — the unfaithful husband, or the wife who built the perfect trap? Amy returns home covered in blood from killing another man, framed as self-defence. Nick is trapped in a terrifying marriage because leaving would destroy him.
