Overview
Fallout is a 2024 post-apocalyptic drama television series created by Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet for Amazon Prime Video, based on the video game franchise of the same name. The series is set in an alternate future where a nuclear war devastated the Earth in 2077. Survivors live in underground bunkers called Vaults, while the surface is a radioactive wasteland filled with mutants, raiders, and remnants of pre-war technology. The series follows three main characters: Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell), a young woman who has lived her entire life in Vault 33, a seemingly idyllic, 1950s-style community. She is forced to leave the Vault to rescue her father, who has been kidnapped by surface raiders. Maximus (Aaron Moten), a young squire in the Brotherhood of Steel, a militaristic order dedicated to preserving pre-war technology. He is tasked with finding a missing scientist and a powerful piece of technology. The Ghoul (Walton Goggins), a mutated, 200-year-old former movie star turned bounty hunter. He is ruthless, cynical, and motivated by a mysterious past. The series follows their intersecting journeys across the wasteland. They encounter mutated creatures, including giant radscorpions and ghouls, and they face the brutal realities of survival. The series explores themes of nostalgia, the American Dream, and the consequences of unchecked capitalism. The Vaults are a satire of 1950s American culture, with their perfect lawns, their propaganda films, and their hidden dark secrets. The series was a critical and commercial success, earning over 17 Emmy nominations and winning two for Outstanding Main Title Design and Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup. It was praised for its performances, its world-building, and its faithfulness to the games. A second season has been ordered.
