Overview
The road west was not an adventure — it was a gamble with everything they owned, and often with their lives. Taylor Sheridan's prequel to Yellowstone follows the Dutton family travelling from Texas to Montana in search of a better life, led on the wagon train by Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott), a tough, grizzled cowboy. James Dutton (Tim McGraw) is a Civil War veteran and family patriarch; his wife Margaret (Faith Hill) is strong and resilient; and their teenage daughter Elsa (Isabel May) narrates the journey. Crossing the Great Plains, they face hostile Native Americans, deadly diseases and the harsh elements, in a brutal, realistic and heartbreaking depiction of pioneer life. The journey ends in tragedy, with Elsa killed by an arrow, and in a kind of promise, as James and Margaret find the valley that will become the Yellowstone Ranch.
