The White Lotus Season 1
Overview
The guests arriving at the White Lotus resort in Maui have everything money can buy, and it is not making a single one of them happy. There's Shane Patton (Jake Lacy), a wealthy, spoiled newlywed who treats his whole honeymoon like a customer-service dispute, and Rachel (Alexandra Daddario), his new wife, slowly realizing what she has married into. There's Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge), lonely, rich and emotionally unsteady, carrying her unhappiness around the resort like extra luggage. And there's the Mossbacher family — Mark (Steve Zahn) and Nicole Mossbacher (Connie Britton), a wealthy couple from San Francisco, trailing their children through paradise. The season watches these people the way you'd watch ants under glass: every poolside conversation and dinner-table slight exposes the machinery of class, race and privilege, and the guests sail through it all completely oblivious, treating the staff who serve them as furniture that pours drinks. That's the satire, and it's as uncomfortable as it is darkly funny — nobody here is a cartoon villain, which is exactly what makes it sting. A luxury vacation where the scenery is paradise and the people are the problem.
