Friday Night Lights Season 4
Overview
Coach Taylor gets fired from his own team — that's where season 4 starts, and it might be the best decision the show ever made. Pushed out at Dillon High after a feud with the boosters, Eric takes over the East Dillon Lions, a program with no money, no locker room, and a field full of weeds. He has to build everything from nothing, which lets the series reinvent itself around new kids: Vince Howard, a quarterback with real talent and a record, played by a pre-stardom Michael B. Jordan; Luke Cafferty, a rancher's son hiding an injury; and Becky, a pageant girl whose storyline the show handles with unusual honesty. The old guard drifts away — Saracen's arc this season, stuck in Dillon caring for his grandmother while his friends leave town, contains some of the most quietly heartbreaking episodes the series ever did. Riggins, meanwhile, learns that graduating was the easy part. Watching Eric coach a team that loses, and loses again, and slowly becomes something anyway — that's this show at its most honest about what winning actually costs.
