Friday Night Lights Season 3
Overview
Season 3 opens with a quiet miracle: the show still exists. A deal with DirecTV saved Friday Night Lights from cancellation, and the writers responded by shelving the messier parts of season 2 and going back to basics — small town, big football, people trying to hold their lives together. The Panthers are stacked with seniors facing their last shot. Tim Riggins is drinking his way toward a future he can't picture, Smash Williams is fighting back from a knee injury with his whole family's hopes on his shoulders, and Matt Saracen is quietly losing his starting job to freshman phenom JD McCoy while his home life falls apart around his grandmother. Jason Street, written off by everyone, starts building an exit from Dillon on pure stubbornness. Meanwhile Tami Taylor becomes principal of Dillon High and discovers the job is mostly saying no to people she loves — including her husband, who needs money for his team. It's the season where the show settles into what it really is: not a football drama, but a marriage and a town, filmed like a documentary.
