The Americans Season 1

Overview

Washington, D.C., in the 1980s, during the Cold War — and the perfect American couple next door are Soviet KGB officers. Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell) pose as an ordinary married couple in the suburbs while conducting espionage, assassinations, and sabotage. The season follows their double life: the missions, the marriage, and the impossible tension between them. It ends with the Jennings completing their mission — and with the cost of that completion still to be counted. The double life is the season's engine: every mission risks the marriage, and every marriage scene risks the mission — and the Jennings live on that knife's edge.
