The Witcher Season 3
Overview
Everybody wants Ciri, and that's the problem Geralt keeps having to solve with a sword. Season three finds Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and Ciri (Freya Allan) on the run, with the Nilfgaardian Empire hunting them across a continent sliding toward war. The season draws on Time of Contempt, and it plays like a fuse burning down: the three of them get brief, fragile stretches of something like a family life, but the politics, the scheming and the armies never stop closing in around them. Everything builds to the Battle of Thanned, where the mages — the people supposed to be above the war — split apart and turn on each other, and nothing on the Continent is safe afterward. The action remains the show's calling card, all steel and monsters and grim, muddy consequence, and the tone stays dark and adult throughout. This season also carries an extra weight fans couldn't ignore: it's Henry Cavill's last as Geralt, which makes his protective, weary version of the character feel like a long goodbye. Not everything lands — the timeline and the changes from the books still divide viewers — but as a chapter about a small family being hunted by an empire, it hits hard.
