The Marvels
Overview
The Marvels is a 2023 superhero film directed by Nia DaCosta, the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is a sequel to Captain Marvel (2019) and the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel (2022) and WandaVision (2021). The film stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel. The three heroes are "entangled" — whenever they use their powers, they swap places with each other. They must team up to stop a new threat, Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton), a Kree revolutionary who is using a powerful bangle to steal resources from other planets. The film is a fun, fast-paced, and colorful space adventure. The chemistry between the three leads is the highlight of the film. The film was a commercial disappointment, earning only $206 million worldwide on a $270 million budget, making it the lowest-grossing film in the MCU. It was praised for its performances and its action sequences, but criticized for its short runtime and its weak villain.
