The Fall Guy
Overview
Colt Seavers gets hurt for a living — falling, crashing, taking the hits so movie stars don't have to. Ryan Gosling plays Colt, a battle-scarred stuntman whose career was nearly ended by a serious injury, and who is pulled back onto a set for one specific reason: the film's star, Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), has vanished, and Colt has to find him. The director he would be helping, and reporting to, is Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt) — a first-time director and, awkwardly, Colt's ex-girlfriend. When Colt discovers Ryder hasn't just wandered off but has been kidnapped, the job stops being detective work and becomes the one thing he is actually trained for: surviving a car chase through downtown Sydney, a fight on a moving dump truck, and a finale involving a helicopter and a boat, using the skills of a man who takes hits professionally. The movie is openly a love letter to the stunt performers who make action films possible while staying invisible, and it earns that tribute by doing the stunts practically and letting you feel every landing. Underneath the chaos it is also a second-chance romance, watching Colt try to win back the woman whose movie he is trying to save.
