Pennyworth Season 3
Overview
Five years on, the war's over and London's problems have learned to walk around in daylight. Season three jumps forward to a city quietly experimenting on its own people: PWEs — people with enhancements — are turning up with strange new abilities thanks to a drug-and-tech pipeline running through the old wartime labs, and Alfred (Jack Bannon), older and more tired but still incapable of staying out of trouble, keeps getting hired to clean up the consequences. Thomas and Martha Wayne (Ben Aldridge and Emma Paetz) are married now and raising little Samantha, and it's genuinely sweet watching the future Batman's parents attempt normal life while Martha runs covert missions on the side. The season leans properly comic-book in places — a cult-like conspiracy, abilities spiralling out of control, Alfred's mum Mary carrying secrets of her own — and the sixties styling stays gorgeous throughout. The show was cancelled after this run, so a few threads dangle, but as a stylish Elseworlds detour it remains one of DC's most underrated series.
