The King's Speech
Overview
A king who can't speak is about to lead a nation into war. George VI never expected the throne. His older brother Edward abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson, leaving the stammering younger brother to carry the crown. Colin Firth plays him with aching vulnerability, a man terrified of his own voice, and Geoffrey Rush is wonderful as Lionel Logue, the unorthodox Australian speech therapist who treats him like a person first and a monarch second. It's warm, it's witty, and it's deeply moving, about duty and friendship and finding your voice when millions are listening. Funny, emotional, and rousing in the best way. And it's a reminder that courage isn't the absence of fear. It's speaking anyway. You'll root for him from the first stammer.
