Overview
The Gilded Age Season 1 is the first season of HBO's historical drama, set in New York City in the 1880s. The series follows the conflict between old money and new money. The old money families are the old Dutch aristocracy, who have lived in New York for generations. The new money families are the industrialists, who have made their fortunes in railroads, steel, and oil. The series follows Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson), a young woman who moves to New York after her father dies. She is taken in by her old-money aunts, Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and Ada Brook (Cynthia Nixon). She becomes caught between the old world of her aunts and the new world of her neighbors, the Russell family. The first season ends with the Russells finally being accepted into society.
