Breaking Bad Season 5
Overview
By the final season, Walter White has everything he said he wanted, and it's rotting him alive. With Gus Fring gone, Walt, Jesse and Mike build their own little empire — but pride is Walt's real product, and it poisons the business, the partnership and eventually his own family. Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn are all extraordinary as the lies close in and Hank's investigation turns, at last, towards home. Vince Gilligan split the sixteen episodes across two years, and the back half is about as good as television gets. "Ozymandias" is regularly called the greatest episode ever made, and the finale, "Felina," did the near-impossible: it satisfied almost everybody. There's no filler here, no stalling — every episode tightens the knot another turn. The season swept the Emmys, winning Outstanding Drama for both halves, but the awards aren't really the point. The point is watching a complete American tragedy play out: a man who kept choosing power, one reasonable-sounding excuse at a time, until there was nothing left of him to save.
