Atlanta
Overview
Atlanta is a 2016 comedy-drama television series created by Donald Glover, who also stars as Earnest "Earn" Marks, a Princeton dropout who is struggling to make a living in Atlanta. The series is a surreal, absurdist, and often dreamlike exploration of race, class, and the music industry. The series follows Earn as he manages the rising rap career of his cousin, Alfred "Paper Boi" Miles (Brian Tyree Henry), a thoughtful, talented rapper who is struggling with fame. The series also stars Lakeith Stanfield as Darius, Alfred's eccentric, philosophical, and unpredictable friend; and Zazie Beetz as Vanessa "Van" Keefer, Earn's on-again, off-again girlfriend and the mother of his child. The series is known for its experimental, genre-bending episodes. One episode is a fake commercial for a parody of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Another episode is a horror film about a invisible car. Another episode is a mockumentary about a young, white, male rapper who is trying to be Black. Atlanta has won numerous awards, including two Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series Musical or Comedy and Best Actor for Donald Glover, and multiple Primetime Emmy Awards. The series is widely considered one of the most innovative and important television series of the 21st century. The series ended with its fourth season in 2022.
