Overview
In 1984, Nike is a struggling running-shoe company, far behind Adidas and Converse in basketball — and Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon) is convinced that one rookie can change all of that. Michael Jordan, fresh out of the University of North Carolina, is the future of basketball as far as Sonny is concerned, and Ben Affleck's film follows the scramble to sign him. Sonny has to convince Jordan himself, his mother Deloris (Viola Davis) and his agent, working alongside Nike co-founder Phil Knight (Ben Affleck) and fellow executive Rob Strasser (Jason Bateman). The heart of it is Deloris, who negotiates a unique contract giving Jordan a percentage of every shoe sold — the deal that would change sports business forever. Smart, funny and entertaining, it's a look at the business of sports where the biggest move isn't on the court, it's in a meeting room.
