Mad Men Season 5
Overview
Don Draper, happily married — who'd have thought it. Season 5 opens with Megan throwing a surprise party where Jessica Paré sings "Zou Bisou Bisou" in front of the entire office, creating one of the show's defining images. The marriage looks like Don's fresh start, and for a while it almost works. But the season belongs to everyone else falling apart. Peggy realizes the agency will never pay her what she's worth and makes the hardest phone call of her life. Roger, feeling obsolete, drops acid and finds clarity in the strangest places. Pete Campbell has the house, the wife, the job — and is miserable anyway, chasing an affair that turns squalid fast. And Lane Pryce, the buttoned-up Brit who kept the firm's books balanced, discovers what happens when a proud man makes one desperate financial mistake. His storyline is the season's dark heart, and Jared Harris is quietly devastating in it. Slower and sadder than season 4, this is Mad Men turning from a show about reinvention into one about the bill coming due.
