Twisters
Overview
Twisters is a 2024 disaster film directed by Lee Isaac Chung, serving as a standalone sequel to the 1996 film Twister. The film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser who is traumatized by a tornado that killed her friends. Kate has left her past behind and is now working as a meteorologist in New York City. She is recruited by her old friend, Javi (Anthony Ramos), to test a new tornado-tracking technology. She reluctantly returns to Oklahoma, the heart of Tornado Alley. She meets Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), a charismatic, reckless, and social-media-famous storm chaser who calls himself the "Tornado Wrangler." He sells merchandise and livestreams his adventures. Kate is skeptical of him, but she is drawn to his charm. The film follows the team as they chase a series of tornadoes across the Great Plains. The tornadoes are larger, more frequent, and more powerful than any seen before. The visual effects are stunning, with the tornadoes depicted as massive, terrifying, and beautiful. The film also explores the relationship between Kate and Tyler. Kate is haunted by her past, and she is afraid to take risks. Tyler is fearless, but he is also hiding a deeper purpose: he is trying to develop a way to disrupt tornadoes and save lives. The film ends with Kate and Tyler successfully disrupting a massive EF5 tornado, saving a town. They kiss, and they become a team. Twisters was a critical and commercial success, earning over $370 million worldwide. The film was praised for its visual effects, its performances, and its respect for the original film. It is a thrilling and emotional disaster epic.
